BASIC PURPOSE: To teach and
motivate educationally disabled and/or educationally disadvantaged students or
adjudicated residents according to established or individualized curriculum.
CHARACTERISTIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plans and
outlines class work adapting the classroom activities, teaching methods and
academic materials presented to meet the special individualized needs of
educationally disabled students and/or educationally disadvantaged students.

Implements a
behavior management program for students, assisting students in learning and
demonstrating responsible behavior.
·
Teaches
academic and vocational subjects required for elementary, junior and senior
high school students.
·
Attends
regularly scheduled staffing and meetings with professionals for the purpose of
reviewing students' background, and establishing goals and objectives for
academic and behavioral growth.
·
Submits
progress reports on each student in the formal education program with
recommendations as to further development.
·
Reviews and
purchases appropriate instructional materials to meet individual needs to
support the curriculum.
·
Supervises or
assists in field trips, recreational and other extra curricular programs for
the benefit of the students.

DISTINGUISHING
FACTORS:
Skill: Requires skill in
developing formats and procedures for special applications OR in investigating
and reviewing the use of equipment and data for a specialized function.
Knowledge: Requires logical or
scientific understanding to analyze problems of a specialized or professional
nature in a particular field.
Impact: Requires
responsibility for achieving direct service objectives by assessing agency
service needs and making preliminary recommendations for the development of
alternative short-term program policies or procedures. Errors at this level result in incomplete
assessments or misleading recommendations causing a disruption of agency
programs or policies.
Supervision: Requires partial
supervision of other employees doing work which is related or similar to the
supervisor, including assigning job duties, providing training, giving
instructions and checking work.
Working
Conditions: Requires performing regular job functions in
an environment which includes exposure to continuous physical elements or a
number of disagreeable working conditions with frequent exposure to minor
injuries or health hazards.
Physical
Demands: Requires light work, including continuous
walking or operating simple equipment for extended periods of time as well as
occasional strenuous activities such as reaching or bending.
Communication: Requires summarizing
data, preparing reports and making recommendations based on findings which
contribute to solving problems and achieving work objectives. This level also requires presenting
information for use by administrative-level managers in making decisions.
Complexity: Requires a
combination of job functions to establish facts, to draw daily operational
conclusions, or to solve practical problems.
This level also requires providing a variety of alternative solutions
where only limited standardization exists.
Independent
Action: Requires a range of choice in applying a
number of technical or administrative policies under general direction and in
making routine decisions or in recommending modifications in work procedures
for approval by supervisor.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree from
a recognized college or university, plus an additional eighteen (18) credit
hours of graduate study in the field of education or in the field in which the
subject matter is being taught.
Experience: Six years'
experience as a certified educator. Experience
as a certified educator may include employment as a teacher, specialist, or
administrator, per NH State Law and Administrative Rules.
License/Certification: Must be
appropriately certified, or eligible for certification through a statement of
eligibility, by the NH State Department of Education's Certification Office in
specific subject area or field of specialization. Subject area(s) or field of specialization
are denoted as endorsement(s). Area(s)
of endorsement must be specified on an approved supplemental job description
prior to recruitment at the agency level.
RECOMMENDED
WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of basic education techniques and
methods. Knowledge of the principles,
methods, techniques and equipment in subjects being taught. Ability to work with students possessing
educational disabilities. Ability to
adapt teaching methods to students' individual learning styles. Must be cooperative and emotionally mature
and have the ability to work for the overall good of the program to which
assigned. Ability to work with other
professionals and teachers in educational programs, as well as areas such as
recreation and other extra-curricular programs associated with the students to
which assigned. Must be willing to
maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as
determined by the agency appointing authority.
