What's New at Graphic Services:

Recently acquired new equipment at Graphic Services allows us to continue providing a variety of services that are in high demand by state agencies. We strive to keep up with new technology and trends to provide agencies with a high-quality printed product at the best possible price.

Laminating
The Print Shop/Bindery at Graphic Services has recently purchased a LAMINATING MACHINE, which can create film coatings from 1.5 mil (lightweight) up to 10 mil (thick). Lamination coverage can be applied to surfaces up to 30" wide, any length. We predict that we will save state agencies 20% to 30% over outside sources on laminating costs. Lamination is beneficial for preserving/protecting posters, signs, info sheets, id cards, covers, photos, etc. and for providing rigidity to thin stock items.

Wide Format Color Printing (Posters, Signs, Banners)
In addition to offering quick color copy services, we now have a WIDE FORMAT COLOR PLOTTER which allows us to create posters and banners up to 42" wide, any length, printed on matte or glossy finished paper, as well as special order of other types of materials. We can design professional looking projects using high resolution photos and graphics to create striking, eye-catching signs. Pieces up to 30" wide may also be mounted and/or laminated in our bindery for a nominal additional fee. Black & White Copiers
In addition to the Xerox 135 Docutec high-capacity Black & White Printer in our print shop, we now also have a multi-function Xerox Nuvera to provide even more, faster Black and White print jobs.

Direct-to-Plate (Platemaker)
The print shop now has a state-of-the-art DIGITAL PLATESETTER that will eliminate the cost of negatives and metal plates, translating into dramatic savings passed on to state agencies over previous methods. Through our pre-press department, we can receive your electronic files, then send them directly to the machine creating the plates required for the print presses. This piece of equipment can also scan your hardcopy camera ready originals, manipulate and separate hardcopy for 2-color printing, drop in prescanned artwork, re-screen tints and manipulate colors, provide color proofs, etc., all faster and cheaper. Of course, there are many variables to consider when preparing jobs using this newer technology, such as accurate positioning of layouts, compatible file formats and software, downloaded graphics and fonts, plus an understanding of color usage in your files becomes much more critical. We strongly urge agency personnel to contact either our pre-press department at 271-1454, or the print shop at 271-3240 before preparing or submitting jobs, to ensure that your project will print accurately, quickly and hassle-free.

The Bureau of Graphic Services is a cost-recovery printing service exclusive to other state agencies, "charging" at rates that are non-competitive with those of outside commercial printers, typesetters, or designers. Since we are only recouping costs, our prices are usually lower, and being a state agency ourselves, the money we charge for materials, equipment, supplies and manpower goes right back into the state's funds. Our staff can produce handsome, effective print products for your agency that will reflect a positive, professional image of our state's government.
