BASIC PURPOSE:  To operate and maintain passenger delivery vehicles, including the maintenance of records on vehicle operation and related office work assignments.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Operates a passenger bus in order to pick up and deliver patients to and from designated locations.

 

·        Maintains daily log covering the operation of state vehicles, including records covering time, destination, driver, and estimated time of return.

 

·        Performs routine maintenance of state vehicles, including light mechanical work as necessary.

 

·        Maintains an inventory of vehicle parts and checks gas levels in both storage tanks and in vehicles as necessary.

 

·        Compiles monthly reports on gas mileage and repair expense reports to meet both state and federal requirements.

Skill:  Requires skill in applying instructions to accomplish different job functions OR in operating machines for a variety of different purposes.

 

Knowledge:  Requires understanding and using business or trades vocabulary or basic arithmetic to perform standard operating procedures.

 

Impact:  Requires responsibility for contributing to agency objectives by ensuring the accuracy of support activities within one or more organizational units.  Errors at this level affect the work of others or have measurable monetary consequences, and require verification and correction in order to complete succeeding work operations.

 

Supervision:  Requires no supervision of employees or functions.

 

Working Conditions:  Requires performing regular job functions in a controlled environment with minimal exposure to disagreeable job elements and little risk of hazard to physical or mental health.

 

Physical Demands:  Requires light work, including continuous walking or operating simple equipment for extended periods of time as well as occasional strenuous activities such as reaching or bending.

 

Communication:  Requires explaining facts, interpreting situations, or advising individuals of alternative or appropriate courses of action.  This level also requires interviewing or eliciting information from state employees or members of the general public.

 

 

Complexity:  Requires a combination of job functions using minimal judgment to perform a variety of job tasks according to clearly prescribed standard practices and procedures.

 

Independent Action:  Requires making a limited number of choices in selecting among alternative courses of action under supervisory guidance and in performing job functions according to a variety of prescribed policies or procedures.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:  Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or its equivalent. 

 

Experience:  One year's experience in driving a bus or similar size vehicle preferably with some experience in clerical duties. 

 

License/Certification:  Must possess a New Hampshire driver's license appropriate for the operation of a passenger bus.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

1.     Applicants must have an excellent driving record.

 

2.     Must show proof of or must successfully complete a state authorized defensive driving course during the probationary period.

 

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:  Working knowledge of driving techniques appropriate for the operation of large vehicles.  Knowledge of motor vehicles laws concerning the operation of passenger buses.  Ability to work with the public or with residents within the institution to which the position is assigned.  Ability to prepare reports on vehicle operation, as well as other reports necessary within the transportation unit.  Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
