BASIC PURPOSE:  To monitor dormitory activities and ensure the correct social conduct and welfare of the residents. 

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Monitors attitudes and behaviors of non-working residents and relates any significant changes to counselor or director.

 

·        Maintains daily house log to delineate whereabouts of residents, number of support group meetings attended, and daily and weekly work list.

 

·        Transports residents to support group meetings, job interviews, house functions, and ancillary services necessary for client treatment.

 

·        Answers incoming telephone calls and provides necessary program information to interested members of social agencies, civil agencies, and the general public.

 

·        Checks rooms and assigns housekeeping duties to ensure that residents maintain suitable living standards and that the facility is maintained in proper order.

DISTINGUISHING FACTORS:

 

Skill:  Requires skill in applying instructions to accomplish different job functions OR in operating machines for a variety of different purposes.

 

Knowledge:    Requires understanding and using business or trades vocabulary or basic arithmetic to perform standard operating procedures.

 

Impact:  Requires responsibility for contributing to agency objectives by ensuring the accuracy of support activities within one or more organizational units.  Errors at this level affect the work of others or have measurable monetary consequences, and require verification and correction in order to complete succeeding work operations.

 

Supervision:  Requires partial supervision of other employees doing work which is related or similar to the supervisor, including assigning job duties, providing training, giving instructions and checking work.

 

Working Conditions:  Requires performing regular job functions in an environment which includes exposure to continuous physical elements or a number of disagreeable working conditions with frequent exposure to minor injuries or health hazards.

 

Physical Demands:  Requires light work, including continuous walking or operating simple equipment for extended periods of time as well as occasional strenuous activities such as reaching or bending.

 

Communication:  Requires obtaining and exchanging information, referring inquiries to the appropriate source, or responding to questions from state employees or members of the general public.

 

 

 

Complexity:  Requires a combination of job functions using minimal judgment to perform a variety of job tasks according to clearly prescribed standard practices and procedures.

 

Independent Action:  Requires minimal choice in performing routine duties under immediate supervision and in following simple instructions according to standardized policies and procedures.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:  Completion of high school or G.E.D. equivalent.  One additional year of formal education in the area of human services may be substituted for one year of required work experience. 

 

Experience:  One year's experience in working with groups of individuals requiring tact, understanding and supervision. 

 

License/Certification:  Eligibility for New Hampshire driver's license if necessary for performing job accountabilities.

 

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:  Knowledge of community problems and interpersonal relationships.  Ability to work independently and supervise residents and employees.  Ability to make reports and keep records.  Ability to get along with groups of residents.  Ability to advise and be responsible for the residents' welfare and social conduct.  Tact and courtesy in dealing with the public.  Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
