BASIC PURPOSE: To supervise
and monitor dormitory activities and subordinate staff and ensure the correct
social conduct and welfare of the residents.
CHARACTERISTIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains records on
residents' work assignments, meetings, and other activities outside the
residence.
·
Supervises lower
level Dormitory Supervisor personnel and volunteer staff. Monitors and performs maintenance and
housekeeping activities, keeps records of maintenance work schedules; maintains
vehicles.
·
Interviews
prospective residents for the program, and handles routine correspondence with
supportive services and concerned individuals.
·
Assists
clients/residents in successfully completing tasks and activities required by
counselors and educators to promote self-awareness and assumption of individual
responsibility. Monitors attitudes and behaviors of residents and relates any
significant changes to counselor or director.

Participates in
client-oriented meetings to assess resident progress relative to their
individual service plans.
·
Reinforces
client/residents compliance with behavioral expectations and treatment plans
through productive interactions while in the facility.
·
Participates in staff
meetings for consistent dissemination of information to improve communication flow
and overall team effort.
·
Contacts family
members, community providers, law enforcement, or health providers regarding
clients under special circumstances.
·
Assumes
responsibility for the day-to-day activities of a dormitory in the absence of
the supervisor.

FACTORS:
Skill: Requires skill
in recommending routine changes in standardized operating procedures OR in
retrieving, compiling and reporting data according to established procedures OR
in operating complex machines.
Knowledge: Requires
knowledge of business practices and procedures or technical training in a craft
or trade, including working from detailed instructions, to apply knowledge in a
variety of practical situations.
Impact: Requires
responsibility for contributing to immediate, ongoing agency objectives by
facilitating the direct provision of services to the public or other state
agencies. Errors at this level
result in inaccurate reports or invalid test results and require significant
investment of time and resources to detect
Supervision: Requires
direct supervision of other employees doing related or similar work, including
scheduling work, recommending leave, reviewing work for accuracy, performance
appraisal, or interviewing applicants for position vacancies.
Working
Conditions: Requires performing regular job
functions in an environment, which includes exposure to continuous physical
elements or a number of disagreeable working conditions with frequent exposure
to minor injuries or health hazards.
Physical
Demands: Requires medium work, including
continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending, or lifting
as well as performing work activities which require fine manual dexterity or
coordination in operating machines or equipment.
Communication: Requires
explaining facts, interpreting situations, or advising individuals of
alternative or appropriate courses of action. This level also requires interviewing or eliciting
information from state employees or members of the general public.

Complexity: Requires a
combination of job functions using minimal judgment to perform a variety of job
tasks according to clearly prescribed standard practices and procedures.
Independent
Action: Requires a range of choice in applying
a number of technical or administrative policies under general direction and in
making routine decisions or in recommending modifications in work procedures
for approval by supervisor.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate's
degree from a recognized college or technical institute with a major study in
substance abuse treatment, sociology, or psychology. Each additional year of approved formal education may be
substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years’
experience working either as a volunteer with substance abuse
prevention/recovery activities, or non volunteer experience in the area of
human services, or some combination of the two, totaling three years.
License/Certification: Valid New
Hampshire driver's license. Impaired Driver Intervention Program Instructor
certification if necessary for performing job accountabilities.
RECOMMENDED
WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of community problems and
interpersonal relationships. Some
knowledge of the supportive services programs offered throughout the state. Ability to work independently and
supervise residents and employees.
Ability to prepare reports and keep records. Ability to get along with groups of residents. Ability to advise and be responsible
for residents' welfare and social conduct. Ability to display tact and courtesy in dealing with the public. Must be willing to maintain appearance
appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency
appointing authority.
